Mariana BO

Mariana BOMariana BO (Mariana Borrego), born on October 27th, 1990 in Culiacán, Mexico is DJ and violinist who explosively fuses techno beats and string music on stage.

Mariana has brought her state's name of Sinaloa to festivals, parties and clubs around the globe.

"I'm not closed to musical genres. It's not that I listen to a band. But if Banda MS or Banda Limón came, of course I could do a collaboration with them.

"Before a show I like to be super alone, find concentration, tune my violin, take breaths in order to prepare myself for the storm."

Mariana BO, considered the only djane, musician and producer in Mexico, implements a project that combines electronic music and violin, using the instrument in their live performances.

Trained as a classical music performer on the violin, since she crossed paths with electronic music Bo has shaken up her shows with her mixes.

This has seen her rise into position number 49 in the world ranking of DJ Mag.

After ending her career as a classical violinist she engaged in a project of electronic music - a genre that captured her interest pretty much instantly.

Mariana BO"I usually have musical guests. On several occasions I have been with four cellists. We have played the themes of Game of Thrones , Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars.

"This year, we are going to play with cellists and perform 'Smooth Criminal', by Michael Jackson. I always give people new things, new experiences," she said.

Admired by Armin van Buuren and Paul Oakenfold, Bo will tour India and Southeast Asia this year with her shows and she considers the EDC Festival as her most important moment.

"It is my third time in the main stage - at a very good time. It is then time for a lot of adrenaline, a lot of pressure, a lot of nerves. And people expect everything from me, because I represent Mexico that day".

The DJ and musician has just released a remix of the legendary song "Feeling Good", by Nina Simone, whose spirit fuses with Brazilian bass and psy house.

"I think I'm going to start releasing more music like this this year, with a more mature sound," she said.

Among her plans is to revert "Stayin 'Alive," which the Bee Gees wrote for the movie Saturday Night Fever.

Mariana BOAll began one afternoon in her room making electronic mixes with classical variations, finding times and tones that, over time formed her musical concepts that gave rise to her the artistic personality, and endowed her with a sharp aesthetic sound sense.

These days Mariana Bo ranks at number 23 in the top 100 Djanemag. Mariana has been in important festivals like EDC México 2015 - 2016, Daydream Festival in Belgium, Airbeat One Festival in Germany B2B with KSHMR, Parooka Ville in Germany B2B with KSHMR, Holi Festival México, Mayan Madness in Mexico, DJ Fest in Mexico and Electric Planet in Mexico.

BO experiments with different genres as EDM, Electro House, Big Room, Minimal, Future House, Tech House, Progressive, Deep House and her new launch has been a success occupying a very important place in the list on iTunes and beat.

She has support from: - KSHMR - Morgan Page - Danny Avila - Paul Oakenfold.

Her collaborations on stage have been with KSHMR, Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Dash Berlin, Above & Beyond, Hardwell, Steve Aoki, David Guetta, Nervo, Rehab, Paul Oakenfold, Sebastian Ingrosso, Nicky Romero, DVBBS, MAKJ, Dannic, Don Diablo, Steve Angello, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, W&W, Empire of the Sun, Vinai and several others

BO recently released the song "Paris" in collaboration with Shibui. Mariana BO shows tremendous promise in global electronic music.

Mariana BO"The story of the Paris song is very curious. I was in Paris taking the metro to go to the airport when a musician with an accordion got on the Metro and started to play. I asked him to play something traditional from that place."

"At first, he didn't understand me all that much because he didn't speak English. It was strange, but in the end we understood each other as best we could."

"So, I took out my mobile phone and started recording what he was playing right there on the Paris Metro." Mariana said.

Thanks to that experience and with the recording on her phone, two years later, Mariana launched a new work that exceeded 57 thousand views on YouTube.

The artist indicated that her path to success has not been real easy - especially because there are still many prejudices regarding women in her profession.

"Music is a science that anyone can do, it does not depend on genres. That was a taboo that I had a hard time breaking into other people, but thanks to overcoming those obstacles I have seen many more female DJs.

I am very happy to be someone that has opened doors for new generations. Without a doubt it is something super cool, but also a great responsibility." she said.

Mariana BOHer love for music emerged at the age of 10. At 12 years of age she started on the drums with percussion classes - and by 16 she had learned to play the violin. She studied violin for seven years and at the same time worked as a DJ.

The pandemic did not stop Mariana Bo - the pandemic, far from harming her, gave her the pause she needed to be able to rest.

It allowed her to fully focus on her projects and to even connect more with her fans with the live streaming.

"The quarantine for me was not something that I could not bear because I came from doing tours and what I wanted was to have a rest."

"For me this was the rest that my body and my mind needed, I slept like I had never slept before."

"But also I started making music - DJs don't have shows at the moment, so I started producing more, selling my songs and I also did streams, which have really served me well."

"I have had many more fans right now - we have reached 300 thousand on Instagram and 400 thousand on Facebook, which makes me very happy." revealed the Mexican artist.

Accustomed to seeing challenges as opportunities, Mariana has been considered for the third consecutive year, one of the 100 best DJs in the world and has been able to take advantage of the situation and continue to promote her career - even from confinement.

Mariana BO"I thought I was going to be doing nothing. Just playing Playstation, but no, I have worked more than ever, focused on seeing how to continue making a profit, work and move forward."

" I always continue to invest in my projects because if you pause, people forget you and the world goes on - so under no circumstances do I sit back and rest, I don't rest until I achieve my goals."

That is why this year she released the singles "Queen of the Desert" along with "22Bullets", and "Feeling Good", as well as the EP "Mariachi", which she already wants to present to fans in a live concert.

Mariana was awarded recognition in the XIII edition of "Sinaloenses Exemplares en el Mundo". An award that is in gratitude to each of those countrymen who honorably represent Mexico at home and in various countries.

The Mexican Secretary of Economy, Javier Lizárraga Mercado, addressed his message to the 5 winners of which Mariana BO was included.

“Sinaloa, being a privileged state not only for its natural wealth, is also a hotbed of talent."

"Something that has been very gratifying to me at the Ministry of Economy is seeing new entrepreneurs who have this seedbed of talent and are representatives of that character and temperament, that people like you put their ideals in the face of adversity."

Mariana BOHer recognition was for Artistic Scope: "Sandra Mariana Borrego Robles (Mariana BO). Originally from Culiacán is a Violinist, DJ and music producer."

"She has taken her music to Latin America, the United States and Europe and shared the stage with Dash Berlin and Steve Aoki, becoming a benchmark in the electronic music genre."

"In 2018 she won first place in the DJaneMag TOP 100 category “Live Act” in France. In 2020, Forbes magazine placed her among the 100 most powerful women along with Salma Hayek, Yalitza Aparicio and Natalia Lafourcade."
