Mica Argañaraz

Mica ArgañarazMicaela Mica Argañaraz, born 16 May 1992 in Buenos Aires, Argentina is a model and artist best known as a Chanel and a Versace muse and referred to as a fashion force to be reckoned with.

Argañaraz was born to Gloria Ebbeke, a photographer. She grew up in the countryside with a brother named Rafael "Rafa", who is a cinematographer.

She has two sisters - Milagros, who works as a yoga instructor, and Ximena "Xime", who is also a model. Before modeling, Argañaraz studied cinematography.

Argañaraz was scouted on the street, but since she was still in school she decided not to pursue a career in modeling. But later while attending university, Argañaraz sent polaroids to a Buenos Aires agency named LO and they called her in for a meeting.

Argañaraz first began her career in 2012, walking the runway for Christopher Kane and appearing in the Spanish and Italian editions of Glamour and Elle respectively.

In 2015 she opened the Versace Fall/Winter show and walked another 61 shows that season. For the next season, Spring/Summer 2016, she walked in 55 shows opening and closing five of them - including for Chanel.

That same season she appeared in the Tom Ford video with Lady Gaga and other models like Lexi Boling and Aymeline Valade.

In 2016 during the Haute Couture Chanel Collection, Argañaraz was presented as the "Chanel Bride".

By 2017 she had appeared in the Versace Fall/Winter campaigns next to Gigi Hadid, Vittoria Ceretti, and Taylor Hill. She also starred in the Fendi campaign in 2018.

Mica ArgañarazIn April, Argañaraz appeared on the inaugural cover of L'Officiel in her native Argentina and in 2020, she opened her second Versace show in the Spring/Summer 2021 season.

She has been on the cover of British Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue Brasil, Vogue Japan, Vogue China, Vogue Paris, Vogue Germany and Vogue Russia.

In advertising campaigns, she has modeled for Michael Kors, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Mango, Alexander McQueen, H&M, and Givenchy.

On the runway, she has walked for designers including Lacoste, Michael Kors, Valentino, Fendi, Alexander Wang, Dries Van Noten, Altuzarra, Jason Wu, Stella McCartney, Hugo Boss, Tom Ford, Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton.

She has frequently been compared to supermodel Gia Carangi, who Argañaraz considers a fashion icon.

She lives in Paris, France. Argañaraz was in a relationship with British photographer Jamie Hawkesworth from 2014 to 2017.

Topping everyone's "One to Watch" list, Mica Argañaraz was the breakout model of 2014, walking every show from Louis Vuitton to Chanel.

She appeared as the first model since Sasha Pivovarova to star solo in a Prada campaign while fronting i-D's The Beautiful Issue, shot by Willy Vanderperre and Olivier Rizzo.

When not strutting her stuff on a catwalk, Mica's either out buying vinyls with her boyfriend, playing guitar in her bedroom or painting.

Currently signed to Viva London, the 22-year-old Argentinian beauty talked about how it feels to be fashion's newest and biggest star.

Mica Argañaraz"In the beginning I sent a Polaroid to my now mother agency and things just blew up from there."

"If I wasn't modelling I'd be doing the same as now, working on my paintings and art projects, learning all that I can every day."

"When I was told I was going to be in the Prada campaign my initial reaction was -"You gotta be kidding!"

"How did I feel about being the only one since Sasha Pivovarova to be the only girl in it...? Honoured and proud of myself."

"I did an i-D shoot on the the day after fashion week ended. I arrived and Willy gave me a hug and said to me "Ohh you are all sweaty and sick, you poor little thing."

"I certainly was, but I was excited about what we were going do. We listened to good, loud music as always. Peter and Duffy turned me into a princess within a few minutes, Olivier chose the look, the perfect look, and we went to the rooftop to shoot."

"The sun made my open eye cry, but after the first click everybody was saying it was crazy amazing, I trust them a lot - so I left the set with a smile."

"I feel sexiest when I'm naked at my place listening to some jazz or blues. At times I get insecure, yes I do, but I trust myself a lot."

"You're going to die. You're going to be dead. It could be 20 years, it could be tomorrow or anytime. So am I. I mean, we're just going to be gone."

"The world's going to go on without us. All right now, you do your job in the face of that, and how seriously you take yourself you decide for yourself." - Bob Dylan

Mica ArgañarazMica Argañaraz was signed after sending a Polaroid to boutique Buenos Aires agency LO, then this rising star was soon referred to international agency Viva.

She has since featured on the cover of British Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue Brasil, Vogue Japan, Vogue China, Vogue Paris, Vogue Germany and Vogue Russia.

She has been photographed by the likes of Mert, Marcus and Willy Vanderperre, and her stock continues to go up.

She has opened and closed a myriad shows from Miu Miu to Margiela, and has walked for Valentino, Givenchy, Celine, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dior. Instantly recognisable for her shaggy hair and a strong jawline, Arganarez is highly in demand.

Argañaraz has featured in editorials for The New York Times’ T Magazine, American Vogue, Love, W and Dazed & Confused and was the first model to feature solo in a Prada campaign since Sasha Pivovarova.

In the Autumn/Winter 2014 campaign, she was shot by Steven Meisel where Argañaraz is pictured against a concrete backdrop in Bedford Hills New York.

A testament to her successful rise within the industry, Arganaraz has been nominated for Models.com's Model of the Year Awards in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Argañaraz is a painter, plays the guitar, and practices meditation.

Mica Argañaraz lives in the sky - literally. Her life goes from airplane to airplane. She barely spends a few days in her Paris apartment before she has to leave again.

Whether it be London, Milan, Tokyo, New York or elsewhere - wherever there is a fashion event - she will be there. It requires her to always have her passport, suitcase and makeup bag with the quartz stone that her sister gave her, her grandmother's rosary and a piece of woodwork that a friend carved.

Mica ArgañarazThe girl with unlimited mileage has filmed a video with Lady Gaga, shared a runway with Jennifer Lopez, met with Mick Jagger. This tall thin beauty is the face of the best brands in the world.

Mica, who lived in the country until she was 14 and then moved to Buenos Aires at 17 to study at the UBA, was found almost by chance - a chance to try her luck as a model in Paris.

All by herself, with only four hundred dollars in her pocket, no credit card, unable to speak a word of French, but encouraged by an alluring illusion - she was not yet 20 when she landed in France.

Today, seven years later, she is the only Argentine chosen as a Fashion icon by Models. com , a site that brings together the most outstanding of the fashion industry.

Last year she received the Martín Fierro of fashion as the best Argentine model. Mica has been the cover of all the main magazines on the planet - all before Mica's career left the launch pad.

The adventure began with a three-month contract to try her luck in the French "city of lights". An uncertain start, not without difficulties, very little money.

Her mother had given her the French for Fools book , so that she could familiarize herself with the language, but on the flight she didn't even flip through it. She was far too excited and awestruck. "I had arrived and was running towards the Eiffel Tower, black eyes wide open and my heart racing."

"In my first show for Prada, I fell down and heard the 'uhh' from people. It was the first time I cried in this profession."

"I stumbled, went to face the floor, took off both shoes and stood up. The music was very strong, but I still heard the "uuuuhhhhh" of the people. A model, who is one of my best friends today, helped me up and kept walking by my side until the run was over. 'It's okay,' he told me."

Then the Italian businesswoman and designer Miuccia Prada summoned her for her fall / winter 2014 campaign and to open the Miu Miu season show , the high fashion brand.

The big start she needed. Then Louis Vuitton , Chloé, Chanel, Valentino, Balenciaga , Dior and the biggest Fashion Week on the planet would arrive and summon her into the fantastic life that she now has.

Mica ArgañarazI had a lot of fun having to survive, the uncertainty and that everything was so new. And, the truth was, it wasn't that hard. I felt very lucky to be able to be living there.

I even managed with very little money. The first months, when you arrive, they give you a pocket money (a pocket allowance) of one hundred euros per week.

I made the most of it because I had no other savings. And I even had the luxury of traveling! I got to go to Amsterdam for only fifteen euros."

But, Mica was tired. Things weren't going her way. She had hardened doing shows at Fashion Week , but she was not the one being chosen by the big brands. “I felt that I had to leave Europe because the clients already knew me. I wanted to try other markets.”

Her agency in Paris suggested that she go to Japan or Australia. But she had an intuition - that it was her turn to prove herself in New York.

When you go to the castings they always tell you no - you get tired. It is a lot of emotional drain. More if you are sensitive and you care. So New York was a great gamble to see if it was worth continuing.

And well, I arrived and said: 'I'm different, I dress differently.' Many times I had been told: 'You can dress more feminine'. I was trying and I didn't feel comfortable."

Mica's look is unique. Today, many media believe that the secret of their success is the tomboy or androgynous look.

“I don't fit the labels. Everyone imagines Mica wearing this or that. Mica is Mica. One day I want to dress like a kid and another, like a mime. It comes out the way it does." "Tomboy because I wear suits? Sometimes I wear them and other times I wear a short dress and it looks good on me. I do not give much credence to those comments, " she responded, I am already more seasoned.

"In New York my luck changed - It was believing in herself a little more and looking into their eyes. I think looking eye to eye is very important. And I learned it on that trip to New York. I had to go through everything I went through to be where I am today."

Mica Argañaraz“Whenever I return to Argentina, I try to go to the countryside, where I grew up. There I reconnect with something very mine, with that little girl who lived near the horses”.

On her latest trip, Mica needed to spend her days at her mother's house: “I wanted to wake up and have Mom make breakfast for me. I needed that pampering."

"So much so that, as soon as I arrived, I got sick - I think it was so that my mother could take care of me. In Paris I am alone most of the time, so I need that restraint ”.

Micaela Argañaraz was born in Buenos Aires, but at the age of two she went to live in the fields of the Laprida district, near Olavarría.

Her father is an agricultural producer and her mother, a photographer and a good cook. She has two sisters and a brother. They all went to a rural school and in the afternoons Mica took art classes: “I painted landscapes, horses, my brothers. Everything I saw ”, she remembers.

At 14, she moved to Olavarría because there was no secondary school in the country. And at 17 she settled in Buenos Aires to study. First, the CBC of Art History at the UBA. Afterwards, cinema.

"Bianca Jagger, Mick Jagger's ex-wife has a particular look and it always seemed very elegant to me. I know several famous people and I am not so easy to impress. But I don't like to give names."

"When I'm melancholic or overstressed, I call my mom. Also my sister Mili, who is a yoga teacher. I meditate with her on the phone."

"I never suffered having to be skinny or with cutthroat competition. The rules of the game have changed a lot. At first I went to castings and they told me: 'And - your eyes are not clear.' That changed. I was always skinny, it runs in the family. But, I eat well. I am quite healthy and aware of my body."

"When I am blue or overstressed I call my mom. Also my sister Mili, the oldest, who is a yoga teacher. She does Thai massages, she is a very Zen person and always brings me down to earth. I meditate with her on the phone."

Mica Argañaraz"My moments of enjoyment are when I paint, I listen to music or play the guitar. This year, perhaps, I'll learn to play the piano. Every time I am about to come to Argentina, I happen to listen to tango and folklore. I also collect vinyls."

"I am not impressed with famous people. The only photo I asked of someone famous was Jennifer Lopez at the Versace show in Milan. No one knew she was going to be there, but they had told me."

"She did the last pass in a Donatella dress. And after that I asked for a photo. I walked over and said, "I'm Mica." She replied, "I'm Jen." I almost died of excitement!

"I recorded a video with Lady Gaga for Tom Ford's perfume campaign and it was simply brilliant. In the middle of the day they told us that a surprise was coming. And that's what Lady Gaga falls for."

"She really seemed like a love to me. She came in and said: 'We are all the same and we are going to be dancing together.' It was many hours of recording but a very nice experience."
