Aleida Torrent is an actress born in Barcelona, Spain where she began her training in theater and the performing arts. This 5'1" 100lb athletically inclined actress has the dark beauty that is reminiscent of the Mediterranean, Latin and South American regions. With brown hair and brown eyes she can easily portray an age range of a beautiful and fit 23 to 33 year old. In possession of a strong-will and a passionate character, she has focused her performances on dramas and strong female roles. She began acting at a young age and has integrated the study of theater, dance and other performing arts into her career. She studied at the Barcelona Theater School and played Ismene and the General's Girl in the school's productions of Antigone, by Sophocles, and The Balcony, by French dramatist Jean Genet.
Aleida made her professional acting debut in 2005 by joining the top-tier company La Fura dels Baus - a Catalan theatrical group that performs urban theater in unusual settings and uses a mix of choreography, acrobatic feats in the vein of Cirque du Soleil, along with opera and other elements to break the wall that often exists between the actors and their audience. She also worked at the Liceu, the Opera Theater of Barcelona, for two consecutive seasons and was part of the ensemble in several of their operas. Her first on-screen appearance was a guest spot on the Spanish TV show 13 anys I un dia (English: 13 years and a day) in 2009. She was personally selected for that role by Barcelona's leading casting director, Pep Armengol.
Now living in the United States, Aleida has played the lead in the web series Front Seat Chronicles which was the People's Choice and Best Low-Budget Series Telly Award winner. Front Seat Chronicles is a series about transformation – difficult everyday conversations that leave us changed in some profound way. It is based on the short story, The Conversation, by Mohammed Bilal. In 2013 Aleida will appear in the movie Caravaggio and My Mother the Pope to be released in 2013. She also worked alongside Jorge Garcia (Lost) in the short film The Lummox and she will play the lead role in a new indie film called Neon Lights by Lenny Porterfield, that is now currently in production. Aleida continues to train to hone her performance skills and is currently training at the Ivana Chubbuck studio.
Much of the presence she conveys on screen may well come from the impact of her early experiences, including the death of her mother at the age of eighteen. Her theater and dance performances while in Barcelona were in the productions of The Balcony by Jean Genet, directed by Ferran Audi, Antigone by Sophocles, directed by Jordi Godall, Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle by Charles Perrault, directed by Joan Oller and Elektra by Richard Strauss, directed by Sebastian Weigle & Guy Joosten. Also with theCatalan theatrical group, La Fura dels Baus performing urban theater in unusual settings while using a mix of choreography, acrobatic feats, opera and other elements to engage the audience. After moving to Los Angleles her endeavors were mainly directed at film work with projects including indie films, shorts and web based film projects. Aleida can speak Catalan, Castilian, Spanish, English and some Italian. In southern California she has also continued training with The Beverly Hills Playhouse.
