Yalıkavak Yalıkavak is a town near Bodrum in Muğla province, on the Aegean coast of Turkey. It is 18 km from Bodrum and located at the north eastern tip of the Bodrum peninsula. It is an important tourist resort. Formerly the Bodrum area’s main fishing port, Yalikavak is considered the most elite village on the Bodrum Peninsula. It has a bustling centre, particularly on market day, relaxing sandy beaches, high quality restaurants as well as several magnificent bays. Yalıkavak is surrounded by hills offering tourists views of the town and nearby Mediterranean coastline.
Yalıkavakis well known for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Yalikavak has many bars and restaurants, many of which are alongside the beach or by the harbour. The beachside restaurants have their own private areas where you can relax and enjoy a cool drink. The food prepared in the restuarants is of a high standard with locally caught fish and fresh vegetables. The surrounding hills offer unique views of Yalikavak Bay - possibly one of the best views on the entire Mediterranean coastline. The hills of Yalikavak are ideal for trekking, afternoon strolls and picnics.
Yalikavak Beach runs around the bay from the boatyard to the center of town center - a narrow sandy pebble beach with a clear blue sea. Many of the bars and restaurants are along the beach and harbour. At Yalikavak Beach you can take a daytrip on a wooden sailing boat - (Turkish: gulet) and go swimming and snorkeling in the clear blue water. The Thursday market - (Turkish: pazar) is the largest on the Bodrum Peninsula with kilims, souvenirs, clothes, jewelry, leather and a myriad of other items.
Turkish Gulets and fishing boats idle in the harbor where they can be seen from waterfront bars and restaurants. The restaurants of Yalikavak offer locally caught fresh fish and other traditional Turkish cuisine for you to enjoy while you watch the sunset as you enjoy an evenings dining. Night life in Yalikavak is low key and revolves around the bars and restaurants without the noise of discos and nightclubs. Should you want to enjoy more fast-paced entertainment, the nightclubs of Bodrum are only a short journey in a taxi from Yalikavak.
Port Bodrum Marina is just 5 minute walk from the center of Yalikavak where the luxurious yachts from all over the world are moored. Port Bodrum's VIP village along with the Fisherman's village have open spaces accommodating many cafe's, restaurants, boutiques and shops. Port Bodrum has a 2,500 seat open air theater offering concerts and a 'Moonlight Cinema' every Wednesday night at 9:30.
All along the coast of the peninsula to the south lie the sandy beaches at Gumbet, Bardakci, Bitez, Ortakent Yahsi, Karaincir, Bagla and Akyarlar. On the western side of the peninsula are Gumusluk, Yalikavak and Turgut Reis. For those who prefer seclusion there are the northern coast destinations of Turkbuku, Golkoy and Gundogan that are all small fishing villages.
