Tömük - Turkey Tömük
Tömük is a town in Mersin Province in the rural area of Erdemli district, which is a part of Mersin Province in Turkey. Although the town center is 3 kilometers or 1.9 miles north of the Mediterranean seaside, newer development of the town have been built at the seaside just on the main highway (D-400) connecting Mersin to the west at a distance to Mersin of 27 kilometers or 17 miles and from Erdemli it is 12 kilometers or 7.5 miles. The population was 10,887 as of 2010, but of course increasing during the summer.

The earliest settlers of Tömük were the members of a Turkmen tribe of a certain Elvan Bey during the 14th century. They founded the village of Elvanlı a few kilometers east of Tömük and Tömük was a just a hamlet used occasionally by the Elvanlı residents. But, early in the last years of the 18th century, people from other villages began to populate Tömük. In 1969, Tömük was decleared a township in its own right. The major economic activity is citrus production. Olives (zeytin), tomatoes (domates) and peppers (aci bibar) are among the other important crops grown in the area. Services for summer houses and pensions in the coastal area also contribute to the town economy.
