Ortaca Ortaca is a town and district of Muğla Province in the Aegean region of Turkey. Formerly a township dependant on Köyceğiz administratively - it was made into a separate district in 1987. Ortaca is a typical Turkish working-class town with an economy based on agriculture. It lies midway between Dalaman and Dalyan with its name literally meaning "the town in the middle", possibly a reference to its location in the middle of the surrounding plain and it has indeed become a regional hub. The town derives benefits from the fertile plain on which it lies and its economy largely depends on tomatoes, citrus fruits, cotton and pomegranates. The market - Turkish: Pazar day is on Fridays and the whole town comes alive with activity. The Ortaca Pazar is always worthy of a visit. A regular bus service operates between Dalaman and Dalyan via the Ortaca bus station - Turkish: Otocar as well as to other main coastal centers. This developing town has supermarkets, shops, bars and cafes at better prices and is only 15 minutes from the Dalaman International Airport, 10 minutes from Dalyan and only 20 minutes from the beach at Sarıgerme. Ortaca is growing rather fast as a consequence of the rapid population growth in Turkey in general, but Ortaca is also becoming an increasingly attractive market for foreign purchases of real estate in Turkey due to its lower prices and proximity to other major resort destinations. Ortaca is also home to a branch of Muğla University that offers programs in agriculture and tourism.
