Kaş Kaş is a small fishing, yachting, and tourist village which is a district of the Antalya Province of Turkey lying 168 kilometers west of the city of Antalya. As a tourists town it is relatively unspoiled. The town of Kaş is on a hillside running down to the sea. The district has a typical Mediterranean climate of hot and dry summers with warm and wet winters which allow the growth of oranges, lemons and bananas. The lowland areas are also planted with cut flowers and a variety of fruits and vegetables - many grown all year round in greenhouses. The area also produces honey and almonds at high altitudes where there are extensive pine forests above Kaş. Even though agriculture is very important to Kaş the tourism is the main source of income for the district which has numerous hotels, pensions, restaurants, cafes and bars. Kaş is one of the leading locations for diving in Turkey. There is a diving school and many places with equipment for hire. If you decide to try diving in Kaş you can expect to see a beautiful array of fish and other sea creatures like octopus and possibly dolphins plus the wrecks of some ancient ships. Kaş itself is an exquisite town with the blue sea and narrow streets scented with jasmine flowers. There are plenty of small pensions, quiet cafes serving traditional Turkish cooking, and small bars to relax in after a day of scuba diving. Kaş has an annual arts festival, holds jazz concerts in the hellenistic theatre and the Kiln Under the Sea Arts Collective have held underwater ceramics exhibitions here. All in all Kaş is remains a great destination on the south coast even though the hillsides outside of town are rapidly being covered with new apartments and villas. About 2 kilometers or 1 mile offshore from Kaş is the Greek island of Kastelórizo - Turkish: Meis Adası which Turkish vessels ferry tourists back and forth from time to time.
