Hisarönü Hisarönü is a tourist resort village in the Marmaris district of the Muğla Province of Turkey. It is situated at the western extreme of the Mediterranean coast of Turkey and the southern extreme of the Aegean coast. The resort has grown from a very basic village in 1990 to the large resort with its neighbor Ovacik since then. In 1992, the road through Hisaronu to Kayakoy was paved for the first time. Hisarönü has become a full-blown resort even though it was originally intended to provide accommodation for nearby Ölüdeniz where new building became rather restricted. In being situated so close to Ölüdeniz it was natural that Hisarönü has become a holiday resort of its own. It has the typical Turkish shops, numerous bars and restaurants with lively clubs which make Hisarönü nightlife renowned. Hisarönü is located just 20 minutes away from the popular resort of Fethiye and has fantastic views overlooking the famous Ölüdeniz lagoon. A short mini-bus - Turkish: dolmuş ride will take you to the beach in nearby Ölüdeniz. The town’s location, being situated 1,500 meters above sea level ensures that Hisarönü benefits from slightly cooler temperatures which are a welcome break from the summertime heat. The many beautiful beaches and secluded coves in this area of Turkey make sun bathing and water sports especially enjoyable. Hisarönü hosts a large number of mainly British tourists during the tourist season from May through late September. A nearby attraction called Kayaköy is a ghost town where the Greeks once lived before the large-scale population exchanges occurred in 1923 when the Republic of Turkey was founded. Kayaköy covers a mountainside with its stone houses and a stone chapel. The entire village is un-occupied because the Turkish government still accedes that they are owned by the expatriated Greeks.
