Güllük - Turkey Güllük
Güllük is a small harbor town situated within the district of Milas north of Bodrum in the Muğla Province of Turkey. A small Turkish holiday destination with a wide selection of restaurants along the waterfront. A marina is in the process of being developed as well as several beaches. Güllük has been an enjoyable stopping place for tourists sailing on Blue Cruises. Situated on Mandalya Bay on the Aegean Sea Güllük is fishing village with a port north of the Bodrum Peninsula. There are numerous restaurants that serve locally caught sea bass and bream, as well as bars and cafes. Güllük has several supermarkets, banks, hotels and pensions. There are also numerous local shops and businesses which cater to tourists. The brand new Vita Park Golf Course has recently opened only 15 minutes away from Güllük in Boğaziçi. Low cost flights are available to Bodrum through EasyJet, Airflights, Thomas Cook, Thomsons, Turkish Airlines, Onur Air and a couple of other airlines. Transfers from Bodrum-Milas airport can be arranged as well as car rentals being available at the airport 15 kilometers away or just around the corner from Rose Gardens in Güllük. For those wishing to visit Bodrum there is a mini-bus (Turkish: dolmuş) between Güllük and Bodrum every hour. There is an abundance of fish restaurants serving locally caught sea bass and bream, cafes and restaurants. There are also several supermarkets, a number of hotels and banks plus many local shops and businesses. Gulluk was formerly known as Kulluk prior to 1933 when it was an import export center for the Greeks trading during the era of the Ottoman Empire. The old store buildings and warehouses have been turned into restaurants and shops.

Güllük has always been a village where they build Turkish sailing boats (Turkish: gulets) just as they do in Bodrum. A gulet is a traditional two-masted wooden sail boat built on the southwest coast of Turkey, which varies in size from 15 to 35 meters, is the boat used for Blue Cruise charters. The village was an import export harbour for the Greeks trading during the Ottoman Empire period and was formerly known as Kulluk before 1933. A shipyard opened in Bodrum in the beginning of the 19th century along with others in settlements like Sinop, Gemlik, Rodos, Fatsa and Amasra. Large galleon construction in Bodrum was interrupted in the middle of 19th century, but they kept building boats for use in fishing, sponging and to facilitate commerce with the islands up until the years 1935 to 1936. Construction of the Bodrum type Gulet flourished in proportion to the development of tourism in the beginning of 1970s. The development of these gulets expanded the boat construction sector due to an increased interest in these types of boats.
