The mediaeval city of Nessebar is a jewel and a must see. It was founded as Messambria in the 6th century B.C. by Greek colonists and has been on the World Heritage List of UNESCO since 1983. The Bulgarian Black Sea coast actually offers everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation: Sunshine, white beaches, clear water with pleasant temperatures around 26 degrees, water sports, entertainment, modern seaside resorts, historic sights, good cooking and very good wine.

In the tourist centres the Bulgarians offer very cheap handmade articles such as fine crochet works, knitwear, pottery, wood-carvings, and paintings. Bulgaria is a small country on the Balkan Peninsula right on the Black Sea Coast, which has just 8.5 million inhabitants, but a multitude of cultural historical treasures. Unique in the world, it bears witness to a great past in the course of which Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Osman conquerors ruled over the country for centuries and left behind their traces. But still Bulgaria has cultivated and preserved its original Slav culture.

Located on a small peninsula of the Black Sea this delightful tourist spot attracts a million visitors every year. Despite its numerous tourist attractions Bulgaria remains a poor country and many, many people live under the poverty line. The villagers mainly exist on what they raise and preserve, and they preserve almost everything including their meat.
