Tania Cagnotto, born 15 May 1985 in Bolzano, Bolzano-Bozen, Italy is an Italian diver. She is the first Italian female diver to win a medal in a World Championship. A member of the sporting federation Sport Federation Federazione Italiana Nuoto, she is sponsored by the GN Fiamme Gialle – Bolzano Nuoto. She is the daughter of Giorgio Cagnotto, winner of four diving Olympic medals between the 1970s and 1980s, and Carmen Casteiner, another Italian diver. She won her first medal at age 14. Since then, she has won several other championships in Europe and the USA. A participant in the 2004 Summer Olympics, in the European Tournament in Madrid, she was the gold medallist in the 10-meter platform event and won a bronze medal for her performance in the 3-meter springboard competition. After a disappointing performance in the 10-meter platform final round at the Montreal 2005 World Championships, she won the bronze medal in the 3-meter springboard event. Cagnotto won a third consecutive bronze medal in the 3-meter springboard at the Rome 2009 World Championships, after a 4th place in the 1-meter springboard event. Together with Francesca Dallapè, she also won a silver medal in the 3-meter spiringboard synchronized event.

Tania was selected to appear on Dancing With The Stars, but declined in order to concentrate on her training.

"I do not deny that in the past if asked to participate in 'Dancing' I would have liked it, but today I am highly Olympic goal-oriented"

Tania Cagnotto not participate in the next edition of the TV show "Dancing with the Stars", as she is highly motivated to prepare for the Olympics and other diving events. Tania decided to complete his training in Australia and focus on her next major competitive commitments.

"Right now I'm in Sydney to make 2 months of training specific for the upcoming major events of 2011, the Europeans in Turin in March and the World Cup in Shanghai in July in order to qualify for the Olympics in London in 2012. These and the next two years are critical to my career and I will not neglect any detail. My goal is to get ready for London in 2012 and do my best. I thank my family and my friends who are close to me and give me their support. I also thank the Federazione Italiana Nuoto (Italian Swimming Federation) which gives me the opportunity to prepare and the Gruppo Sportivo delle Fiamme Gialle to which I belong and the sponsors (GN Fiamme Gialle – Bolzano Nuoto) who believe in me."

The first dive she ever did was when she was two years old because she slipped into the lake at the sports center Acquacetosa in Rome - a sign of destiny? No, she was just shocked, actually. She was 6 years when she did her first real dip in a pool and it seemed the most natural gesture - Just like she was born to do just that. Yet her parents had done everything to bring her to choose another sport. She was taken to the tennis courts and they tried to make her fall in love with skiing. But Tania just wanted to dive. She wanted to imitate what they had done, her father and her mother, and she enjoyed it like crazy.

"Diving meant for me a way to play. And dream. Yes, because since childhood I dreamed so much, I dreamed of going to the Olympics..."

Her father George Cagnotto was a great diver and winner of two bronze medals at the Olympics, and her mother Carmen Casteiner was a eight time champion of the platform. She made her debut in a major event at the senior European Championships at Helsinki in 2000 where she ranks seventh from the 3 meter springboard. At the Sydney Olympics, despite being the youngest athlete at only 15 years of age, she placed 18th and just missed the final. The first senior medal from the win at Euro 2002 in Berlin, only beaten by the German Anke Piper. In the same event she also got the bronze medal in pairs with Maria Marconi. In 2003 she won the gold at the European Cup in Stockholm and obtained the qualification for the 2004 Olympics through 11th place in the springboard and on the platform 13th. Tania won the world championship in Barcelona. At European Championships in Madrid 2004, she won the gold medal and bronze, respectively, from the platform and the 1 meter springboard.

At the Athens Olympics, won eighth place in both platform and 3 meter springboard from which was a first among European athletes. In Montreal 2005 honors Italy by managing to win the bronze in the 3 meter springboard diving from behind two Chinese athletes who dominated the world rankings. She was the only Italian woman to have achieved this result. After Montreal Tania spent a year in America in the city of Houston where she experimented with new ways of training along with other great athletes. Tania participated in the American League where she obtained the title of "diver of the year". In this period spent abroad, she enrolled at the university and attending classes on the science of nutrition. Although she considered the experience constructive and useful from many points of view, she evaluated the work method and approach of her "fellow" Americans and found it too different from the Italian and not always adapted to his needs. She decided to return to live and train in Italy again under the leadership of George Cagnotto.

The 2006 is the year of the Europeans in Budapest, but unfortunately Tania arrives at the event in poor condition from considerable stress and was penalized with regard to physical form, but she still managed to win fourth place in the competition in the 3 meter. At the World Championships in Melbourne, in 2007, doubling the outstanding success of 2005, she confirmed herself once again on the world's third 3-meter springboard. In March of 2008 comes another medley of gold in Eindhoven. Tania is European champion again on the platform. The Beijing Olympics 2008, the protagonist in the final of the 3 meter springboard along with all the biggest divers in the world. On that occasion, Tania makes all her fans proud by winning fifth place - another result never before achieved by an Italian diver.

After the Beijing Olympics Tania decided to leave the platform to engage the trampoline focusing her efforts on this to improve her results. So in October of 2008 she created a new pair of women's synchronized diving from the springboard of 3 meters with the National champion Francesca Dallape. In April 2008 at the European Championship held for the first time in Turin, Italy Tania makes a big bang with 3 gold medals in the 1 meter and 3 meter springboard as well as the 3 meter synchronized with Francesca Dallape equaling the record of Russian diver Dmitry Sautin, the only one who had managed to win three gold medals at a European level.

The World Championships in Rome in 2009 are a great opportunity for both Tania and for its fans, who want them to hear what the neighbors are. And neither of them will be disappointed. Tania, despite the tension, brings home the third consecutive World Cup bronze medal behind an unparalleled Guo and Canadian Heymans. But the surprises do not end here because a few days after Tania and Francesca make one of the finest companies in the Italian diving, winning the silver first female in history. A formidable second only to China in sync. Thanks girls, thanks to the fans for their wonderful support!
