Yael Grobglas

Yael GrobglasYael Grobglas, born in Paris, France is a naturalized Israeli actress and former model. Yael started her acting career with a lead part in three seasons of the Israeli sci-fi TV series Ha'Yi (English: the Island) from 2007 to 2009, which established her popularity among Israel's teenage audiences. She and her fellow actors say they had a ball making The Island.

"The chemistry between us was instant," said Grobglas, who speaks fluent English with a slightly British accent.

"My mother is Austrian and my father is French," she explained.

She gained recognition for her debut film role in first Israeli horror film Kalevet in 2010, which participated in the Tribeca Film Festival and a number of other venues internationally. Grobglas recently performed a number of lead and supporting roles in prime time Israeli television shows, including in the sitcom Ha-Shualim (English: The Foxes) in 2010, Ramzor in 2011 and Hatzuya in 2011. She is also known for her role as "The Girl" in the interactive video of We the Kings "Say You Like Me" and as "Gabi" in the popular Israeli series Tanuhi in 2012.

Yael GrobglasIn the United States, it was announced on February 22nd, 2013 that she was cast as the lead role of "America Singer" in The CW Network pilot called The Selection. Grobglas was born in the city of lights of Paris, France, the daughter of Eva Rosner and Jean Pierre Grobglas. Her father is from France and her mother is from Austria. Later her family moved to Israel, where her talent and passion for the performing arts became visible at an early age. As a teenager, Yael studied different styles of dance and performed in a professional dance group. She had a brief modeling career with Elite Modeling agency and participated in a number of runway shows and advertising campaigns.

Having realizing that she possessed a greater interest in acting, Yael began taking acting classes. After participating in a few small projects, Yael was cast for the sci-fi TV series Ha'Yi (English: The Island), which brought her to the attention of viewers and made her popular among the young Israeli audiences. Following two consecutive seasons of the show, Yael enrolled in a full-time three-year acting program at the Yoram Loewenstein Performing Arts Studio. She completed an additional season of Ha'Yi, and was cast for a number of major commercials during the course of her studies. She gained recognition internationally for her role in the first Israeli horror film Rabies (Hebrew: Kalevet) in 2010, and locally in Israel for the sitcom Ha-Shualim, the comedy TV series Tanuchi (English: Chill) in 2012, the Drama mini-series Yehefim (Englsih: Barefoot) as well as making a number of recent guest appearances.

Yael GrobglasIn her first pilot season in the United States, the Israeli actress landed one of the most sought-after roles for young actresses - the lead in the CW drama The Selection. Because of a theater commitment in her native country, only had two weeks to audition in Los Angeles before returning home. This resulted in her booking the role as America Singer in the television drama. Set 300 years in the future, The Selection is an epic romance centering on America Singer - a working class young woman chosen by a lottery drawing to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. Warner Brothers Television is producing the pilot, written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain based on the Kiera Cass book.

Aimee Teegarden, who played America in The Selection last year, is the lead of another CW pilot this year, Oxygen. Two other Selection cast members from last year, Sean Patrick Thomas and Peta Sergeant, are reprising their roles. While being an unknown in the United States, Grobglas has played the lead of a series before – she toplined the Israeli series Tanuchi. During her career she has worked with some of Israel's top actors and directors in her roles in films, television sitcoms, mini-series and primetime shows, as well as plenty of supporting roles and guest appearances. Yael is currently working on a number of television and theater projects, including her role in the critically acclaimed Beer Sheva Theater production of Woody Allen's Play it Again, Sam.
