The international terminal at Atatürk International Airport in İstanbul was opened on January 10th 2000 after its construction by the TAV Consortium on a build/operate/transfer model based on the tender of the TAV General Directorate. Its passenger capacity was 20 million passengers per year. The capacity has increased to 25,500,000 passengers per year as of December 2010. Beside this, there are 9 souvenir shops, 3 banks, 10 Automatic Teller Machines, 9 currency change offices, 17 auto rental companies, 1 jewellery, 2 icecream shops, 3 newspaper vendors, 2 newspaper distributors, 2 shoeshine booths, 2 post offices, 9 lounges, a café, a florist, a market, a pharmacy and a hairdresser. There is a health unit, massage facility, a baggage checkroom and a meteorologist. Additionally there are 3 telecommunication centers, 2 pay points, a car-wash, photographer, car-park offices, 2 concierges, 3 luggage wrapping machines, 3 mobile snack bars, duty free center, toyshop and a map stand.

The first airport in İstanbul was opened in Yesilkoy in 1912 for military purposes. In consequence of International Civil Aviation Convention undersigned in Chicago in 1944, it was agreed upon to found an international airport in Istanbul at Yesilkoy. A contract was signed with Westinghouse Electric International Company and the IG White Engineering Corporation for the construction of this airport in 1947. Construction began in 1949 and was completed in 1953 and the airport put into service on August 1st, 1953 and dedicated as Yesilkoy Airport.
