Kristin Espinasse, born on the 22nd of December 1968 is an American born author and photographer from Phoenix, Arizona who used to live with her French husband, Jean-Marc, and their two children near Orange, France. But, just recently she, her husband and children have resettled on the Mediterranean seashore, close to the fishing village of Bandol in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Or region in southeastern France. Bandol is a seaside resort in a sheltered bay that is popular in summer but also pleasant to visit out of season when the crowds have gone and you can fully enjoy the beauty of a typical Mediterranean winter. It has long been the same quiet retreat for artists and writers that accommodated Katherine Mansfield and the German author, Thomas Mann, at the turn of the 19th century. Kristin and her husband will still remain involved with the vineyard Domaine Rouge-Bleu and will continue to ensure a part of the wine distribution.
Kristin is the author of the book Words in a French Life: Lessons in Love and Language from the South of France
and Blossoming in Provence. She is also behind a three times a week French Word-a-Day weblog and its accompanying newsletter. She also publishes cinema verite, a weekly photography showcase that features photographs from France and other countries. Her most recent book, French Word-A-Day Summer 2009 Stories, was published on December 1st of 2009.
Her Blog French-Word-A-Day.com was started 1999 when this former desert-dweller from Arizona began to share tidbits of Provence from her impromptu office in various cafés along the French Riviera. Her plan to distribute her cafés letters from France began as an honest attempt at freelance journalism, but ended up landing her as a French resident and author. While on a language exchange program from Arizona State University she met her future husband - a frenchman. Less than two years later she packed three cardboard U-Haul boxes and said goodbye to the Phoenix desert and bonjour to Aix-en-Provence.
