Gwen Jorgensen, born 25 April 1986 in Waukesha, Wisconsin is a professional American triathlete and a member of the 2012 Olympic Team. It was not until 2010 that Gwen Jorgensen turned to the triathlon. At the World University Triathlon Championships in Spain she won the silver medal and was elected USA Triathlon Rookie of the year. At the World Championship Series triathlon in London 2011, Jorgensen placed 2nd and thus earned a spot on the 2012 US Olympic triathlon team. Gwen attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she swam and ran for the Badgers. She earned her Master's in accounting and passed the CPA exam.

She is employed by Ernst & Young in Milwaukee where she is also resident. Jorgensen is a member of the USA Triathlon Project 2012 program. She placed fourth at the 2011 Pan American Games in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on Oct. 23 and was the winner of the 2011 USA Triathlon Elite Race Series women’s title where she locked up the series victory with a win in the Oct. 9 series finale in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Jorgensen overcame a crash on the bicycle to run her way to a runner-up finish at the USA Triathlon Elite National Championship in Buffalo, N.Y., on Sept. 24th. She is ranked 11th overall and as the No. 3 American in the final 2011 ITU World Championship Series Rankings. She placed ninth and recorded the fastest run split at the September 4th Hy-Vee Triathlon Elite Cup and finished sixth at the ITU Elite Sprint Triathlon Championship on Aug. 20th.

Part of the U.S. Team that took fifth at the ITU Team Triathlon World Championships on Aug. 21 she posted her first ITU World Cup win in Tiszaujvaros, Hungary, on Aug. 14 with the day’s fastest run split at 33:49 which was 42 second faster than any other competitor. Less than two years after completing her first competitive triathlon, she placed second to post the best finish by an American woman in the history of the ITU World Championship Series and claim a spot on the 2012 United States Olympic Triathlon Team on Aug. 6 in London. Jorgensen closed the race with a 33:43 10k run split and posted the fifth-fastest run split at the July 17 Hamburg WCS event. Jorgensen made her ITU World Championship Series debut in Madrid on June 5 - Placed fifth at the May 8 Monterrey ITU World Cup - Finished 16th at the March 27 Mooloolaba ITU World Cup. Also was fifth at the Mazatlan ITU Pan American Cup on April 9 - Finished third overall at the opening event of the USA Triathlon Elite Race Series on March 5 in Clermont, Fla., but was the No. 2 American to earn runner-up honors in the first-ever USA Triathlon Elite Sprint National Championship.

Jorgensen was named the 2010 USA Triathlon Rookie of the Year and Elite Duathlete of the Year after a remarkable debut season as an elite. She led the U.S. with a runner-up finish at the 2010 PATCO Pan American Championship in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and also finished fifth at the 2010 Huatulco ITU World Cup. She took fifth at the 2010 USA Triathlon Elite National Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as well as finishing 13th at the 2010 ITU Duathlon World Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland. Jorgensen took third at the 2010 San Francisco ITU Pan American Cup after closing strong on the run. She notched fifth-place finishes at the Kelowna and Coteau-du-Lac Pan American Cup events in 2010 and finished second at the 2010 FISU World University Championships in Valencia, Spain, in just her second triathlon after posting the fastest run split by more than 2 minutes. As an amateur she was a standout runner and swimmer turned to triathlon after being identified by USAT’s Collegiate Recruitment Program. In her first competitive triathlon, she earned an elite card with an eighth-place finish (second amateur) at USAT’s Elite Development Race in March 2010 in Clermont, Florida.

Jorgensenon also won three different running road races in 2010. She was a member of the track & field, cross country and swimming teams at Wisconsin where she Swam for three years in college before switching to track on a full-time basis. Se earned All-America honors in both track and cross country. Jorgensen was a 2009 Big Ten champion in the 5,000 meter and 3,000 meter and a three-time NCAA Championship participant in track and two-time cross country participant. She qualified for the Big Ten Swimming Championships from 2004-07 and was a six-time Academic All-Big Ten choice and recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 2009. Prior to college she was a standout in both swimming and track at Waukesha South High School. When Gwen is not competing she likes to read, eat sushi, and hang out with friends and family.
