Genesis Rodriguez

Genesis RodriguezGenesis Rodriguez, born in Miami on July 29th, 1987) is an American actress of Cuban and Venezuelan ancestry who launched her acting career playing leading roles in the Telemundo telenovelas such as Prisionera in 2004, Dame Chocolate in 2007 and Doña Bárbara from 2008 to 2009.

The popularity of "Prisoner" was such that Telemundo managed to sell it to Romania, Switzerland, Spain, Israel and a large majority of countries in South America.

She played Sarah on Entourage from 2010 to 2011 and assistant museum curator/adventurer Jane Walker on Time After Time in 2017, and has starred in the films Man on a Ledge in 2012, Casa de Mi Padre in 2012, What to Expect When You're Expecting in 2012, The Last Stand in 2013, Tusk in 2014 and Run All Night in 2015.

She provided the voice for Honey Lemon in Big Hero 6 during 2014, a role she reprised in the TV series in 2017.

Her mother, Luisa Carolina Pérez Rodriguez, is a Cuban model and her father, José Luis Rodríguez, is a Venezuelan actor and singer who is also known by the nickname "El Puma".

Genesis grew up in a bilingual environment, thus mastering the Spanish and English languages, and enjoying both cultures.

Upon returning to Miami, she continued private instruction and obtained a recurring role on the American daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives from November 2005 through January 2006. She also attended the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute, in New York.

She was also a repeat special guest on the Bravo TV series Top Chef. In addition to American television, Rodriguez also performed in Spanish language roles and played dual leads as Rosita Amado and Violeta Hurtado in the primetime series Dame Chocolate, which aired on Telemundo.

Genesis RodriguezIn 2012, Rodriguez had a substantial role as the love interest of Will Ferrell in the movie comedy Casa de Mi Padre, a spoof in the style of the Mexican soap operas of the 1970s.

She followed that role with an appearance in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie The Last Stand in 2013, playing villainous FBI Agent Ellen Richards, as well as appearing in the comedy Identity Thief as Marisol.

Rodriguez lent her voice to Honey Lemon in the 2014 film Big Hero 6. In February 2017 she appeared, in the main female role, in the music video for Romeo Santos' song Héroe Favorito.

She has two half-sisters, Liliana Rodriguez and Lilibeth Morillo and was educated at the Carrolton School of the Sacred Heart in Miami. From her early school days, Rodriguez knew she wanted to act and attended summer classes at the renowned Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, as well as embarking on other acting training.

She once mentioned on the The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on a January, 9th, 2013, episode, that she was named after the British rock band Genesis.

When asked about her excellent physical condition she replied: "I know I can't eat whatever I want and look the way I want, so you need to work for it. I give credit to Pilates and my parents' good genes. Sometimes I'd rather just be the girl who likes to eat a lot of food."

Genesis RodriguezI'm bi-cultural, and I think everyone sees me as a Latina, but in my head I see myself as both Latina and American. I don't really care if people think I'm good-looking or not; it doesn't define me as a person. Sometimes I'd rather just be the girl who likes to eat a lot of food.

Latinos are very passionate, and they perform a lot, and look at me, I'm talking with my hands, and this is just my normal self, so it kind of allows me to be who I am and not dumb it down.

It's very important to me that people see I am an American and I was born in the States, but I would love to do film in Spanish.

The amazing soap opera actress was once in a dating relationship with Christian Meier, who was 17 years older than her - they met while on the sets of "Doña Bárbara" and started a romance in 2008

But as they say sometimes, a career is the biggest roadblock to a successful relationship, and that was the same with their relationship!

The two did not last long because Genesis chose her career over her relationship when she chose to move to California.

Back in an interview in 2016, when she was asked how it was like dating an older man, she said,

Genesis Rodriguez"Maybe I was mimicking my parents' relationship, because my dad is 23 years older than my mom. I fell madly in love with Christian,”

Of her decision of choosing career over love she said, "I either stick it out with him and make it work or focus on my career. I chose my career. "

"I really want to keep on opening doors for myself, and for others who want to come in."

So for those who were wondering if the two ever got engaged, the answer is no - as they then moved along in separate paths.

“It's always been such a freaking headache to introduce any guy to my dad because my dad is probably going to say something inappropriate, be rude or show his El Puma side.”

And in case people were unaware, her father is the iconic José Luis “El Puma” Rodriguez, who is a world famous Venezuelan singer.

Rodríguez commented that when working on Kevin Smith's film, Moose Jaws. "He is the first director I've worked with that doesn't see my race," the actress said. "When he cast me for Allison in Tusk, it wasn't written for a Latina."

"When he met me, he was like, 'Oh shit, she can act.' In Yoga Hosers he made me do a Canadian accent. I was like, 'Kevin, you know I'm brown and Latina.' He said, 'Yeah, so what?'"

Genesis RodriguezThe star is all about supporting her fellow Latinas, recalling when she and Gina Rodriguez auditioned for the same role in Deepwater Horizon. "I was like, 'Don't worry, it's all you, mama.' And she got it. Her success is my success.'"

Rodriguez wanted Floridians to be careful out there. The actress was talking about skin cancer prevention at a L’oreal sponsored event at The Thompson in Miami Beach.

Rodriguez, shared some of her own beauty tips and the top one is to slather on bronzer - evenly. “Wear some sunblock please,” advised the actress - “You’re going to thank yourself in 10 years. It’s going to prevent wrinkles, too

“If you wonder about the stars and what their secret is to looking so good,” said Rodriguez, who was born and raised in the Miami sun.

“Believe me. These stars are not outdoors baking in the sun."

"They’re protecting themselves. The tans are fake!” Being by the ocean is the greatest thing.

I love Miami; I miss it so much. I miss the beach, the peace it brings you. I love the sound and smell of the sea.

Genesis RodriguezIf this acting thing doesn't work, I'd just put in my resume for NBA.com. I'm a really huge basketball fan and I'd talk all sorts of trash. I love to talk about sports. I love sports; it's just something that's in my nature.

I really like the risk takers. I like people who make those different choices on the carpet. I really like Charlize Theron. I think she's elegant and edgy as well - and I really love Zoe Saldana.

I like when a guy has his shirt off and I can see his chest and his abs. When it's all smooth, you can see a lot. Girls like to see a guy who takes care of himself. It says a lot about him. Girls really like for doors to be opened for them also. Guys should really remember that. Also, I could never date a guy with a pet snake."

If I could do anything aside from being an actress, I'd be an engineer of some sort. I used to build robots.

Deeyah - Memini

Deeyah founded Memini in early 2011 as a digital memorial for the victims of honour killings worldwide. Memini means remembrance in Latin and it features the stories of young women around the world who have lost their life in the name of family and community honour. Memini aims to include as many stories as possible of these tragic cases to acknowledge what has happened to these women by raising awareness about the extent of the problem of honour killings.

Babel

Babel is inarguably one of the best films of 2006. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and his co-writer, Guillermo Arriaga weave together the disparate strands of their story into a finely hewn fabric by focusing on what appear to be several equally incongruent characters: an American (Brad Pitt) touring Morocco with his wife (Cate Blanchett) become the focus of an international incident also involving a hardscrabble Moroccan farmer struggling to keep his two young sons in line and his family together. A San Diego nanny, her employers absent, makes the disastrous decision to take their kids with her to a wedding in Mexico. And a deaf-mute Japanese teen (the extraordinary and beautiful Rinko Kikuchi) deals with a relationship with her father and the world in general that's been upended by the death of her mother.
